John Griffith
Alpine Waste & Recycling
President
As president of Alpine Waste & Recycling, John Griffith has built a company with consistently growing revenues and increasingly influential presence in the Denver area’s waste and recycling industries. Griffith founded Alpine in 1999 with start-up equity capital of $700,000 and began signing up customers even before the company had a truck. He spent three-and-a-half months as Alpine’s sole employee and nine months as Alpine’s sole salesperson.
Griffith was a finalist for ColoradoBiz Magazine’s CEO of the Year award in 2007 and 2008, the only time in the magazine’s history that an executive was named in consecutive years. Alpine also received ColoradoBiz Magazine’s Top Company Award in the Service Category in 2008.
Prior to founding Alpine, Griffith was sales manager for Browning Ferris Industries (BFI), handling all commercial and residential accounts in the market extending from Fort Collins and Greeley down to Colorado Springs. He supervised 18 commissioned sales representatives and support personnel.
Griffith cut his teeth in sales with three years at Sears, Roebuck and Co., where he managed appliance and electronics departments and supervised 26 commissioned sales associates.
At Alpine Waste & Recycling, he works with the company’s executive team to develop and execute corporate strategy.
Originally from Uvalde, Texas, he attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he received his degree in business. He spends his spare time hiking and backpacking, usually in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. His wife is Tara, and they have twin sons, Luke and Jack.
